Which McDonald’s character was a cheeseburger-shaped mayor of McDonaldland?

Mayor McCheese was the cheeseburger-shaped mayor of McDonaldland.

The character appeared in McDonald’s advertising as a mayor with a large cheeseburger head, formal clothing, and a sash. His design turned one of the chain’s signature menu items into a personified civic leader within the brand’s fictional world.

Mayor McCheese was part of the same advertising universe as Ronald McDonald, Grimace, the Hamburglar, and other McDonaldland figures. These characters helped McDonald’s present its restaurants as a playful destination rather than simply a place to buy food.

The character is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac, another McDonaldland figure whose head was shaped like a Big Mac. Their names and designs referred to different menu items, making the distinction important in questions about McDonald’s character branding.
