Which McDonald’s character represented the Big Mac in the original McDonaldland cast?

Officer Big Mac represented the Big Mac in the original McDonaldland cast.

Officer Big Mac was a law-enforcement-themed character whose head was shaped like a Big Mac hamburger. He appeared alongside Ronald McDonald and other McDonaldland figures in advertising designed to make McDonald’s menu items and restaurants part of a shared fictional world.

The character’s visual design made the product reference immediate: the bun, fillings, and layered shape of the Big Mac were incorporated into his head. This was a common McDonald’s branding strategy, in which food products became characters with names and personalities.

Officer Big Mac is sometimes confused with Mayor McCheese because both were authority figures in McDonaldland. Mayor McCheese had a hamburger-shaped head too, but Officer Big Mac was the character specifically named after and modeled around the Big Mac. Their overlapping designs contributed to occasional mix-ups in recollections of the campaign.
