Which McDonald's character appeared as the mayor of McDonaldland?

Mayor McCheese was the McDonald's character who appeared as the mayor of McDonaldland.

The character had a large cheeseburger for a head and wore a mayoral sash, presenting a deliberately playful version of civic authority. He appeared alongside other McDonaldland figures in television commercials and promotional material aimed primarily at children.

McDonaldland gave McDonald's a shared fictional setting in which the food and restaurant experience could be represented by characters. Mayor McCheese served as one of the setting's recognizable leaders, while the Hamburglar played the role of a recurring troublemaker.

The character is often confused with Officer Big Mac because both belonged to the same fictional community and represented authority figures. Mayor McCheese's cheeseburger head and mayoral title are the identifying details.
