The McDonald’s advertising slogan began with the question “Did somebody say McDonald’s?”
The line turned the restaurant name into the expected answer to a conversational question. That structure made the slogan sound like a spontaneous craving or suggestion, linking the McDonald’s name with the idea of wanting food.
It belongs to the chain’s later twentieth-century advertising history and should not be confused with “I’m Lovin’ It,” which became McDonald’s global slogan in 2003. Nor is it the name of a menu item such as the Big Mac or Chicken McNuggets.
Question-based advertising allowed McDonald’s to make its brand name the central verbal cue. The technique was especially useful in short commercials, where a simple question and answer could be repeated and remembered quickly.
