Officer Big Mac was the McDonaldland character with a Big Mac for a head who worked as a police officer.
His design combined a police uniform with the visual identity of McDonald's signature Big Mac sandwich. That combination made the character immediately recognizable in commercials and promotional artwork.
Officer Big Mac belonged to the same fictional universe as Mayor McCheese, Grimace, and the Hamburglar. McDonald's used these characters to assign personalities and occupations to menu items and brand ideas.
A frequent mix-up is between Officer Big Mac and Mayor McCheese. Both had burger-shaped heads, but Officer Big Mac represented law enforcement and had a Big Mac head, while Mayor McCheese represented civic leadership and had a cheeseburger head.
