Which McDonaldland character served as the fictional town’s mayor?

Mayor McCheese served as the fictional town of McDonaldland’s mayor.

McDonald’s introduced Mayor McCheese as one of the central characters in its McDonaldland advertising world during the early 1970s. The character had a cheeseburger for a head, complete with facial features, and was usually depicted wearing formal civic clothing.

Mayor McCheese appeared alongside characters such as Grimace, the Hamburglar, and Birdie the Early Bird. His role was chiefly as a recognizable authority figure within the fantasy setting, rather than as a mascot for one specific menu item.

A common mix-up is confusing Mayor McCheese with Officer Big Mac. Officer Big Mac was the police character, while Mayor McCheese represented McDonaldland’s local government. McDonaldland advertising was gradually retired as McDonald’s shifted toward simpler campaigns and product-focused branding.
