Which McDonaldland character became the fictional mayor in McDonald's branding?

Mayor McCheese became the fictional mayor in McDonald's McDonaldland branding.

Mayor McCheese was introduced as one of the characters inhabiting McDonaldland, a fantasy setting created for McDonald's advertising. He was depicted wearing a mayoral sash and suit, with a large cheeseburger for a head.

The character helped McDonald's build a shared advertising world around its food and restaurant experience. Other McDonaldland figures included Grimace, the Hamburglar, and Officer Big Mac, each with a distinct visual identity and role in commercials and promotions.

Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac because both characters used McDonald's menu items as visual themes. Mayor McCheese held the civic title of mayor; Officer Big Mac was a police officer. Their titles were part of the fictional McDonaldland setting, not real corporate positions.
