Which market-cap giant is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp?
Answer
Meta Platforms
Answer
Meta Platforms
Meta Platforms is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The company changed its corporate name from Facebook, Inc. to Meta Platforms, Inc. in October 2021. Facebook remained the name of its flagship social-network service, while Meta emphasized a wider focus on social technology and immersive digital experiences.
Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004 with fellow Harvard students. Meta later built its family of apps through major acquisitions, including Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014.
The company is sometimes called Facebook because that remains one of its best-known products. For corporate questions, however, Meta Platforms is the listed parent. Its market capitalization reflects investor valuation of the whole company, including advertising, messaging, virtual-reality hardware, and research activities.
