Which Mario Party game first supported the GameCube microphone?
Answer
Mario Party 6
Answer
Mario Party 6
Mario Party 6 was the first Mario Party game to support the GameCube microphone. The microphone was packaged with the game and enabled a dedicated set of voice-controlled minigames.
In Mario Party 6, players hold the microphone and speak commands or sounds to influence gameplay. These mic minigames formed their own category alongside four-player, two-versus-two, duel, battle, DK, Bowser, and rare minigames. The microphone was not required for the entire game, so standard board play and most minigames still used ordinary GameCube controllers.
Mario Party 7 also supports the same GameCube microphone, which can make it seem like the first compatible title. It was actually the follow-up. Mario Party 6 was released for the GameCube in 2004 and was the third Mario Party game on that console. Its microphone feature was one of the game’s headline additions, alongside the day-and-night cycle that changes board conditions every three turns.
