Lancia has won the most World Rally Championship manufacturers’ titles, with 10 WRC manufacturers’ championships. Its success was built around several generations of highly effective rally cars, especially the Stratos and Delta.
Lancia first won the WRC manufacturers’ title in 1974 with the Stratos HF, then repeated the feat in 1975 and 1976. After another title with the Rally 037 in 1983, Lancia dominated the late 1980s and early 1990s, winning six consecutive championships from 1987 through 1992 with the Delta family.
The figure can look different in historical tables because Lancia also won the 1972 International Championship for Manufacturers, the predecessor to the modern WRC manufacturers’ championship. Counting that predecessor produces 11 major manufacturer titles, but the WRC total itself is 10.
Lancia’s record is easy to confuse with its drivers’ record: the manufacturers’ title rewards a marque’s season-long results, while the drivers’ title goes to an individual competitor.
