Jaguar’s first overall victory came in 1951, when Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead won in a works Jaguar C-Type. The marque returned to the top in 1953, again with a C-Type, before the successful Jaguar D-Type era produced three straight victories from 1955 through 1957. Jaguar’s seven total wins place it behind Porsche, Audi and Ferrari in the manufacturer standings, but ahead of Bentley and Toyota in the historical table.
A common mix-up is confusing manufacturer totals with team totals. Jaguar’s seven victories are credited to the constructor or manufacturer, while individual entrants and teams can have different records. The three-year D-Type streak is also distinct from Jaguar’s complete total: the marque’s wins were spread across 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1988 and 1990.
