Which major championship has never been won by a left-handed golfer?
Answer
U.S. Open
Answer
U.S. Open
The U.S. Open is the major championship that has never been won by a left-handed golfer. The other three men’s majors have all had left-handed champions.
Bob Charles became the first left-handed major winner at the 1963 Open Championship. Mike Weir then won the 2003 Masters, followed by Phil Mickelson’s PGA Championship victory in 2005. Bubba Watson won the Masters in 2012 and 2014, while Mickelson also won the Masters in 2004 and The Open in 2013. Brian Harman added another left-handed Open Championship victory in 2023.
The distinction refers to the way the golfer plays, not necessarily natural hand dominance. For example, Mike Weir is naturally right-handed but plays golf left-handed. Phil Mickelson is also commonly described as a left-handed golfer despite being right-hand dominant in some activities.
