Which magazine first serialized 'Herbert West-Reanimator'?

The story behind the answer

Which magazine first serialized “Herbert West–Reanimator”? Home Brew first serialized it, running the story from February through July 1922. It appeared across six issues of the amateur publication.

Lovecraft wrote the story between October 1921 and June 1922. His friend George Julian Houtain published it in Home Brew, where each installment presented another episode in the narrator’s account of Herbert West’s increasingly grotesque experiments with reanimation. The serial format helped give the story its episodic structure and its famous section headings.

Weird Tales is a common mix-up because it later published Lovecraft widely and is associated with much of his reputation. However, Home Brew was the original venue. The tale is also notable for introducing Miskatonic University, a recurring fictional institution in Lovecraft’s work. Its scientific approach to resurrecting corpses later inspired the 1985 film Re-Animator, though the film substantially changes the story’s characters and events.
