Richard Mille created the RM 001 tourbillon, its first wristwatch, in 2001.
The RM 001 was the debut watch of the Richard Mille brand. It was developed with watchmaker Dominique Guenat and introduced a technical, tonneau-shaped design focused on lightweight construction, visible mechanics and resistance to shocks.
The watch used a manual-winding tourbillon movement and a titanium baseplate. Its exposed architecture and racing-inspired presentation helped establish the brand’s modern identity in high-end independent watchmaking.
The RM 001 should not be confused with later Richard Mille models such as the RM 007 or RM 011. Those watches expanded the range with different complications and case materials, while the RM 001 was the founding model.
