Harry Winston created the Opus series of collaborative independent-watchmaker timepieces in 2001.
The Opus project paired Harry Winston with individual independent watchmakers to produce limited-edition watches emphasizing unusual mechanics and distinctive design. Each annual collaboration generally received its own Opus number and concept.
The series helped bring attention to independent makers within a major jewelry and watch brand’s program. Participants included influential creators from the independent-watchmaking world, and the watches often focused on unusual displays, advanced complications or unconventional cases.
Opus should not be confused with Harry Winston’s regular watch collections or with the unrelated use of “opus” in music and publishing. The project’s defining feature was collaboration rather than a single standardized movement or case design.
