Fendi was founded in Rome in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi. The house began as a fur and leather shop and grew into an Italian luxury brand known for leather goods, fur, accessories, footwear, ready-to-wear, and couture.
Adele Fendi had opened a handbag and fur workshop before the family adopted the Fendi name after her marriage to Edoardo. In 1932, the couple opened a boutique on Rome’s Via Piave, helping establish the business as a destination for visitors and luxury shoppers.
The founders’ five daughters later joined the family company. Karl Lagerfeld became a major creative force when he joined in 1965, and he designed Fendi’s famous double-F logo in 1966. A frequent mix-up is confusing that logo with Louis Vuitton’s LV monogram; the double-F is associated with Fendi, while LV identifies Louis Vuitton.
