Which London legal institution trained Mahatma Gandhi as a barrister?

The story behind the answer

Mahatma Gandhi trained as a barrister at the Inner Temple in London.

Gandhi travelled to England in 1888 to study law and joined the Inner Temple, one of London’s four Inns of Court. He was called to the bar in 1891 and returned to India that year.

The Inns of Court were professional societies responsible for legal education and admission to the English bar. Gandhi’s membership in the Inner Temple is distinct from attending a university law school.

He initially struggled to establish a legal practice in India. His later political career began after he accepted legal work in South Africa, where racial discrimination shaped his developing philosophy of satyagraha.
