The London department store on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge is Harrods.
Harrods occupies the famous store at 87–135 Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, an affluent district of west London. The present building was designed by architect C. W. Stephens and opened in 1905, although the business on the site began much earlier, in 1849, when Charles Henry Harrod took over a small shop.
The store developed from a modest grocery business into a vast luxury department store selling food, fashion, beauty products, homewares and specialist goods. Its ornate building, extensive departments and international reputation made Harrods one of London’s best-known retail landmarks. It also became associated with distinctive green-and-gold branding and elaborate seasonal displays.
Visitors sometimes confuse Harrods with Fortnum & Mason, Liberty or Selfridges because all are prominent London department stores. Their locations and histories differ: Harrods is specifically the Knightsbridge landmark on Brompton Road, near major cultural and luxury-shopping destinations such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and Sloane Street.
