Hilary Devey founded the logistics company Pall-Ex.
Pall-Ex is a palletised freight network designed to move consignments between businesses through a coordinated network of regional transport companies. Devey launched the company in 1996, identifying an opportunity to organise pallet deliveries more efficiently than many fragmented haulage operations could manage alone.
The business helped make Devey one of Britain’s most recognisable logistics entrepreneurs. Her career is sometimes mixed up with that of other Dragons whose businesses were in retail or consumer services, but Pall-Ex is specifically associated with freight distribution and pallet networks.
Devey later became an investor on Dragon's Den, where her logistics background gave her particular insight into supply chains, delivery costs and operational scale. Pall-Ex should not be confused with Palletways, another pallet-delivery network operating in Europe.
