Loewe’s Amazona handbag was first created in 1975 and became the Spanish luxury house’s classic travel bag.
The Amazona was designed as a spacious, practical bag for modern women, combining a soft rectangular body with handles and a secure closure. Its name refers to the Amazons, the women warriors of Greek mythology. Loewe has produced the design in different leathers, colors, and sizes over the decades.
The Amazona is sometimes mistaken for Loewe’s Puzzle because both are major house signatures. The Puzzle, introduced much later, is recognized for its geometric construction and distinctive folded leather panels. The Amazona instead has a more traditional, roomy silhouette.
The bag’s longevity reflects Loewe’s emphasis on leather craftsmanship. Loewe, founded in Madrid in 1846, became especially known internationally for leather goods before its later expansion into broader fashion collections.
