ORECA is the LMP2 chassis maker most commonly used at Le Mans. Its current Oreca 07 has become the dominant modern LMP2 design, with many teams choosing it because of its performance, reliability, support network and extensive endurance-racing experience.
LMP2 regulations permit a limited group of approved chassis constructors rather than an unrestricted prototype market. Other recognised names have included Ligier, Dallara and Riley/Multimatic. Some cars can also appear under different branding: Alpine’s LMP2 entries, for example, were based on an Oreca design rather than being wholly separate chassis concepts.
ORECA’s advantage became especially clear after the 2017 rules reset. At the 2017 Le Mans race, every WEC LMP2 team selected an Oreca-based car, while the grid also included the other approved manufacturers. That dominance does not mean ORECA is the only legal choice; it means it has been the most widely represented and frequently selected option.
