Aslan is the lion who rules Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s fantasy series. He is the central figure of The Chronicles of Narnia and is portrayed as the creator, rightful king, and protector of the land.
Aslan appears throughout the seven-book series, though his role and prominence vary from book to book. He guides characters, judges moral choices, and restores order when Narnia faces threats. Lewis’s Christian beliefs strongly influenced the character, and Aslan’s death and return in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe are especially associated with Christian themes.
Aslan is not the same kind of character as the human kings and queens who govern Narnia during particular periods. Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy receive royal titles, while Caspian and later rulers govern at different points. Aslan remains the higher sovereign and spiritual center of the fictional world.
