Which Leo Tolstoy short story is framed as a conversation between three hermits and a bishop?

The story behind the answer

Leo Tolstoy’s short story framed around three hermits and a bishop is The Three Hermits.

The story describes three simple hermits living on a remote island. A bishop visits them and tries to teach them the formal wording of a Christian prayer. The hermits repeat the words imperfectly, but their lives are presented as sincere and devoted.

After leaving, the bishop learns that the hermits are able to move across the water in a miraculous pursuit of his boat. Their simple prayer reveals a spirituality that does not depend on polished religious language. Tolstoy uses the episode to contrast institutional authority with humility and direct faith.

The story is sometimes confused with Three Questions, another Tolstoy tale about a ruler seeking answers to moral problems. The titles sound similar, but their plots and framing devices are different.
