What was the name of the railway station where Leo Tolstoy died?

The story behind the answer

Leo Tolstoy died at Astapovo railway station.

In November 1910, Tolstoy left his estate at Yasnaya Polyana during a late-life journey. He became seriously ill with pneumonia while traveling by train and stopped at Astapovo, a small railway settlement in what was then the Russian Empire.

The stationmaster, Ivan Ozolin, provided a room for Tolstoy, and the writer died there on 20 November 1910 according to the Gregorian calendar. News organizations and admirers gathered outside as officials tried to manage the intense public interest.

Astapovo is often confused with Yasnaya Polyana, Tolstoy’s home and the place near which he was buried. In 1918, Astapovo was renamed Lev Tolstoy in his honor, and the station is now associated with a memorial museum.
