Kyogre awakens after rain is summoned in Pokémon Pokopia.
A story sequence begins when Ditto encounters an Onix trapped inside a cave that is too difficult to break through. The characters learn that rain could soften the rock, but the area has not received rain for years. Tangrowth therefore sends Ditto to find Slowpoke, whose yawns are said to summon rain.
Slowpoke’s initial rain is brief, but it is enough to awaken Kyogre from a resting place beneath the sea. Kyogre then helps summon a much greater rainfall, allowing Ditto to free Onix and continue restoring the world.
The sequence uses Kyogre’s established association with oceans and rain while giving the Legendary Pokémon a non-battle role. Befriending Kyogre also raises Ditto’s Pokédex rank and opens access to Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges.
