Which language did Mahatma Gandhi use for most of his early writing and speeches in Gujarat?

The story behind the answer

Gujarati was the language Mahatma Gandhi used for much of his early writing and public communication in Gujarat.

Gandhi was born in Porbandar in Gujarat and grew up in a Gujarati-speaking environment. Gujarati remained central to his identity and to his efforts to communicate with local readers, reformers, and political supporters.

He wrote his autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth, originally in Gujarati under the title Satyana Prayogo athva Atmakatha. He also edited Gujarati publications, including Navajivan, which helped spread his ideas about nonviolence, self-rule, sanitation, religion, and social reform.

Gandhi also worked extensively in English and used Hindustani and Hindi in broader national politics. Those languages were important to his all-India communication, but Gujarati was the principal language of his early regional writing.
