Which language did J.R.R. Tolkien invent for the Elves called the Eldar?

The story behind the answer

Quenya is the Elvish language J.R.R. Tolkien developed for the Eldar.

Tolkien based Quenya partly on the sounds and structures of Finnish, and he described it as a formal or classical language among many Elves. In the history of Middle-earth, Quenya was associated especially with the Eldar who had lived in Aman, the Blessed Realm.

Quenya is not the only Elvish language Tolkien created. Sindarin became a common spoken language among many Elves in Middle-earth and was influenced by Welsh. Readers also sometimes confuse Quenya with Khuzdul, the secret language of the Dwarves, or the Black Speech, created by Sauron. Tolkien’s invented languages were central to his world-building, and their histories often explain relationships between peoples and cultures.
