The Lamborghini Urus is the brand’s best-selling model. It is Lamborghini’s high-performance luxury SUV, introduced in 2017 as a 2018 model-year vehicle and delivered to customers from early 2018.
The Urus changed Lamborghini’s commercial scale. Before it, the company’s modern best-seller was the V10-powered Gallardo, which reached roughly 14,000 units. The Urus quickly surpassed that figure because SUVs appealed to a much broader audience and offered everyday practicality without abandoning Lamborghini’s performance identity.
The name comes from the aurochs, or urus, the extinct ancestor of modern domestic cattle. The SUV is built on Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform, sharing underlying architecture with vehicles such as the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg, although Lamborghini gives it distinctive styling, tuning and powertrains.
A common mix-up is the LM002, Lamborghini’s earlier SUV produced from 1986 to 1993. The LM002 was historically important, but the Urus is the model that became the company’s best-selling vehicle. Lamborghini reached its 20,000th Urus in 2022, making it the fastest model in the company’s history to reach that milestone.
