Which Kraftwerk member inspired the title of Bowie's instrumental V-2 Schneider?

The story behind the answer

Which Kraftwerk member inspired the title of Bowie's instrumental “V-2 Schneider”? Florian Schneider.

David Bowie named the 1977 track as a tribute to Florian Schneider, the co-founder of Kraftwerk. Schneider's electronic music strongly influenced Bowie during his Berlin period, when he was exploring synthesizers, studio experimentation and European art-rock ideas.

“V-2 Schneider” appeared on the Heroes album and was also released as its B-side. The title combines Schneider's surname with “V-2,” referring to the German ballistic missile developed during World War II. The song is largely instrumental, with Bowie contributing saxophone and only the title being sung.

A common mix-up is confusing Florian Schneider with Kraftwerk members Wolfgang Flür, Karl Bartos or Ralf Hütter. All were important to Kraftwerk, but the title specifically honors Schneider. The track was recorded in West Berlin in 1977 and was first performed live by Bowie much later, during his 1997 Earthling Tour.
