Walls and Bridges was the John Lennon album that reached number one on the Billboard 200 in 1974.

Released in September 1974, Walls and Bridges was Lennon's fifth studio album after the Beatles' breakup and his first recorded entirely in New York. Lennon was living apart from Yoko Ono during what he later called his “lost weekend,” though the album also featured major collaborators including Elton John, Jim Keltner and Jesse Ed Davis. His son Julian Lennon contributed to “Ya-Ya.”

The album topped the US chart for one week in November 1974. Its success was closely linked to “Whatever Gets You thru the Night,” which became Lennon's first solo US number-one single. Elton John famously bet Lennon that the single would top the chart and later joined him onstage at Madison Square Garden.
