The Cuckoo’s Calling introduces J.K. Rowling’s detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott.

The novel was published in 2013 under the name Robert Galbraith. Its mystery begins when Lula Landry, a famous model, falls to her death from a London apartment. Although the police treat the death as suicide, Lula’s brother hires Strike to investigate whether she was murdered.

Robin Ellacott arrives at Strike’s office as a temporary secretary and becomes involved in the case. Their professional relationship develops throughout the series. The book’s authorship was initially attributed to Robert Galbraith, but Rowling was identified as the writer after the pseudonym was exposed. Later Strike novels continue their investigations into complex London crimes.
