Which J.K. Rowling novel follows the death of Albus Dumbledore?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows follows the death of Albus Dumbledore.

Dumbledore dies near the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth main novel. The seventh book begins with Harry preparing to leave Privet Drive and complete the mission Dumbledore entrusted to him: finding and destroying Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

The Deathly Hallows was published in 2007 and concludes the original seven-book series. Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger spend much of the novel away from Hogwarts while searching for the objects that preserve Voldemort’s soul. The plot also introduces the three legendary Deathly Hallows.

A common mix-up is identifying the sixth book as the one after Dumbledore’s death. The death occurs in Half-Blood Prince, but the consequences and the trio’s quest dominate Deathly Hallows. The title therefore marks the final stage of the story rather than the book in which Dumbledore dies.
