In Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan tracks Grievous to Utapau, a sinkhole world where the Separatist general is hiding with his droid army. Their confrontation begins as a lightsaber duel, with Grievous using four blades against Kenobi before escaping on his varactyl, Boga.

Kenobi pursues him and eventually exposes the organic organs inside Grievous’s cyborg torso. When Grievous tries to flee, Obi-Wan uses the general’s own blaster against him, firing repeatedly into the exposed organs and killing him. The death removes one of the Confederacy’s last major military leaders shortly before the Clone Wars end.

A common mix-up is confusing Grievous’s death with Count Dooku’s: Anakin Skywalker kills Dooku earlier in the film aboard the Invisible Hand. Kit Fisto is killed by Darth Sidious, while Plo Koon and Zett Jukassa die during Order 66. Obi-Wan’s victory over Grievous occurs in 19 BBY, the final year of the Republic.
