Which Japanese video game company developed Pokémon Red and Green?

The story behind the answer

Game Freak developed Pokémon Red and Green.

The company was founded in Japan by Satoshi Tajiri and began as a video game magazine before becoming a development studio. Tajiri’s idea for Pokémon grew from his childhood interest in collecting insects and his fascination with the Game Boy’s link-cable technology.

Nintendo published the original games and provided the Game Boy platform, but development was handled by Game Freak. Creatures, another company associated with the franchise, also contributed to Pokémon’s broader development and later helped manage aspects of the brand.

Game Freak has remained the principal developer of the core Pokémon role-playing games across multiple hardware generations. This makes it different from Nintendo, which is the best-known publisher and platform holder but is not the original developer of the main series.
