Money Tigers was the Japanese television programme that inspired the format adapted as the British series Dragon's Den.
The underlying concept places entrepreneurs before a panel of wealthy investors who decide whether to offer money in exchange for a stake in the business. That structure became the defining feature of Dragon's Den and many related international productions.
The Japanese title is commonly translated or referenced as Money Tigers. The word “tigers” also helps explain why different countries use different animal imagery in their local titles: the UK version uses Dragons, while other adaptations have adopted names such as Sharks.
The format has travelled widely, but an adaptation is not the same programme as the original. The British series has its own presenters, investors, episode history and production context, even though its central pitch-and-investment mechanism comes from the Japanese source.
