Which Japanese programme was the direct source for the British television series Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Money Tigers was the Japanese programme that directly inspired the British television series Dragon's Den.

Money Tigers, known in Japan as Money no Tora, established the central format in which entrepreneurs present proposals to wealthy business investors. The investors question the pitch, assess the commercial opportunity and decide whether to provide funding.

The British programme retained this basic structure but created its own panel, presentation style and title. The international success of the format led to adaptations in many countries, including the United States programme Shark Tank.

A frequent error is treating Shark Tank as the original source. Shark Tank is another adaptation of the same broad format, not the Japanese programme from which the British version was directly adapted.
