Issey Miyake launched L’Eau d’Issey, the women’s fragrance introduced in 1992.
The fragrance was created by perfumer Jacques Cavallier. Its name means “Issey’s water,” and its concept emphasizes a clean, airy impression inspired by water. Floral, aquatic and woody elements give it a style that became influential in early-1990s perfumery.
The tall, narrow bottle was designed by Issey Miyake and Fabien Baron. Its silhouette was inspired by the view of the moon behind the Eiffel Tower from Miyake’s Paris apartment, according to accounts of the design concept.
L’Eau d’Issey is often confused with L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme, the men’s version introduced in 1994. The women’s original came first and established the broader fragrance line.
