Which Japanese expressway connects Tokyo to Nagoya?
Answer
Tomei Expressway
Answer
Tomei Expressway
The Japanese expressway connecting Tokyo to Nagoya is the Tōmei Expressway, commonly written Tomei Expressway.
The route runs along Japan’s Pacific-side Tōkaidō corridor on Honshu, linking Tokyo with Nagoya through or near major urban and industrial areas such as Yokohama, Shizuoka and Hamamatsu. Its western end is at Komaki, just outside Nagoya, where it connects with the Meishin Expressway.
The first sections opened in 1968, and the entire roughly 347-kilometre route was completed in 1969. Together with the Meishin Expressway, it created a crucial road artery between Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
A common mix-up is the Chūō Expressway. It also connects Tokyo and the Nagoya region, but follows a more inland, mountainous route. The newer Shin-Tōmei Expressway was built as a parallel alternative, not as the original route named in the question.
