Interstate 10 connects Santa Monica, California, with Jacksonville, Florida.
I-10 is the southernmost transcontinental route in the U.S. Interstate Highway System. It begins at State Route 1 near the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica and runs about 2,460 miles through eight states: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
The highway links major cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, and Tallahassee. Its final eastern connection is at I-95 in Jacksonville. A common mix-up is I-40, another major east-west highway that is longer but runs farther north, while I-8 ends in southern California and I-20 does not reach either Santa Monica or Jacksonville. Construction began in the 1950s, and the final cross-country section opened in Phoenix in 1990.
