Which Norwegian mountain road near Åndalsnes is famous for its eleven hairpin bends?

The story behind the answer

The Norwegian mountain road near Åndalsnes famous for eleven hairpin bends is Trollstigen.

Trollstigen, meaning “the Troll Path,” is a dramatic mountain pass in Rauma Municipality, in Norway's Møre og Romsdal county. It forms part of Norwegian County Road 63, connecting Åndalsnes with Valldal. The road climbs a steep mountainside with an incline of about 10 percent and reaches an elevation of roughly 850 meters.

Construction took eight years, and King Haakon VII officially opened the road on July 31, 1936. Its eleven bends, narrow roadway, waterfalls, and views over the Isterdalen valley made it a major tourist attraction. The nearby Stigfossen waterfall drops about 320 meters, and viewing platforms overlook the winding route.

Trollstigen is sometimes confused with Lysebotn Road, another spectacular Norwegian route with many bends, or the Atlantic Ocean Road, which is known for bridges across coastal islands. Trollstigen is seasonal: snow, rockfall, and maintenance can close it outside the main summer driving period.
