Beatles musician John Lennon married Japanese artist Yoko Ono in 1969.
Lennon and Ono met in London in November 1966, when Ono was preparing an art exhibition. Their relationship became romantic in 1968, while Lennon was still married to Cynthia Lennon. Lennon and Cynthia divorced in November 1968.
Lennon and Ono married on 20 March 1969, in Gibraltar. They later held a highly publicized honeymoon in Amsterdam, where they staged their first “bed-in for peace.” The event made their marriage part of their public anti-war activism.
A common mix-up is confusing Ono with Pattie Boyd, who was married to George Harrison before later marrying Eric Clapton. Lennon and Ono had one son, Sean Lennon, born in 1975. Lennon was previously married to Cynthia, with whom he had a son, Julian.
