Which actress did comedian George Burns marry in 1926?

The story behind the answer

Comedian George Burns married performer Gracie Allen in 1926.

Burns and Allen began performing together in vaudeville during the 1920s. They married on January 7, 1926, and their act became one of the most famous comedy partnerships in American entertainment. Burns generally played the straight man, while Allen performed her deliberately illogical “dumb” character.

Their stage success led to recordings, films, radio programs, and television. The Burns and Allen radio show began in 1932, and The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show ran on television from 1950 to 1958. Their professional partnership lasted until Allen retired from performing in 1958.

They adopted two children, Sandra and Ronald. Although Allen is often remembered primarily as a television comedian, she and Burns first became well known through live vaudeville performances. Burns lived until 1996, while Allen died in 1964.
