Which item evolves Scyther into Scizor?

The story behind the answer

A Scyther holding a Metal Coat evolves into Scizor when it is traded.

Scizor was introduced in Generation II, making it one of the new Pokémon that expanded the original Kanto evolutionary lines. The evolution requires two conditions in the traditional games: Scyther must be holding the Metal Coat, and the trade must be completed with another player. The item alone does not cause the evolution through ordinary leveling.

Scizor changes Scyther's Bug/Flying typing to Bug/Steel and replaces its green, mantis-like appearance with a red, armored design. Its pincers resemble claws or scissors, reflected in the English name. Scizor also received a Mega Evolution in Pokémon X and Y.

The main mix-up is with Kleavor, another Scyther evolution introduced much later. Kleavor evolves through Black Augurite in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, while Scizor remains associated with the Metal Coat and trading mechanic. Items such as the Sun Stone and King's Rock evolve other Pokémon but do not produce Scizor.
