Which island is home to Willemstad, the capital of Curaçao?
Answer
Curaçao
Answer
Curaçao
Curaçao is the Caribbean island home to Willemstad, its capital and largest city.
Willemstad lies on Curaçao’s southern coast around a natural harbour. Its colourful historic centre, divided by the Sint Anna Bay channel, is famous for Dutch colonial architecture and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Curaçao is one of the ABC islands, along with Aruba and Bonaire. The group lies just off the northern coast of Venezuela, outside the main arc of the Lesser Antilles. Curaçao’s dry climate and semi-arid landscape distinguish it from wetter islands farther north and east.
The island is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Dutch, Papiamento, and English are widely used, while Spanish is also common. Curaçao’s name is often confused with the broader Caribbean region known as the Dutch Caribbean.
