Which island is home to the UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park?

The story behind the answer

The island home to Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park is Saint Kitts.

Brimstone Hill Fortress stands on a volcanic hill on Saint Kitts in the nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The fortification was built by the British using enslaved African labour and was developed over many decades from the late seventeenth century.

The site protected a strategically important Caribbean harbour and was involved in conflicts between Britain and France. Its thick stone walls, elevated position and surviving military buildings make it one of the Caribbean’s best-preserved fortresses.

UNESCO added Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park to the World Heritage List in 1999. It is often confused with Nevis because the two islands share one country, but the fortress is on Saint Kitts.
