James Caan joined Dragon's Den in series 5 after building the Hamilton Bradshaw investment firm.
Caan is a British-Pakistani entrepreneur and investor whose career has included recruitment, private equity and business investment. He founded Hamilton Bradshaw, a private-equity firm named after his two daughters, and developed experience backing and growing companies before joining the television panel.
He entered Dragon's Den after the programme's original lineup had already changed. On the show, he was associated with direct questioning about management teams, business models and the practical route to growth. His investment background differed from the retail-heavy experience of some other Dragons.
The series number matters because Caan was not an original investor. He joined in series 5 and later left the programme, making him distinct from Peter Jones, the only Dragon present in every series. Hamilton Bradshaw should also not be confused with Caan's earlier recruitment businesses.
