Which inventor created the first electronic television image in 1927?
Answer
Philo Farnsworth
Answer
Philo Farnsworth
Philo Farnsworth created the first fully electronic television image in 1927.
As a teenager, Farnsworth developed the concept of scanning an image into electrical signals and reconstructing it on a screen. On September 7, 1927, his system transmitted a simple horizontal line at his laboratory in San Francisco. The device used an image dissector camera tube and an electronic display rather than mechanical scanning discs.
Farnsworth’s work formed a foundation for electronic television, but he was not the only pioneer in the field. John Logie Baird demonstrated mechanical television, while Vladimir Zworykin developed important camera-tube technology at RCA. Patent disputes and legal battles later surrounded the development of television.
A frequently missed distinction is the word “electronic.” Several earlier systems produced images mechanically or experimentally. Farnsworth’s significance lies in demonstrating an all-electronic approach that could be developed into modern television.
