Which International was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

The story behind the answer

The International 2020 was the International cancelled or skipped because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Valve originally planned the tenth International for Stockholm, Sweden, in 2020. In April 2020, as the pandemic disrupted international travel, public gatherings, and esports schedules, Valve announced that the event would be delayed indefinitely. It ultimately did not take place that year, making 2020 the first year in the tournament’s history without an International.

The event is sometimes described more precisely as postponed rather than cancelled: its planned edition was abandoned, then the competition returned as The International 2021. That replacement event was held in Bucharest, Romania, and was played behind closed doors after local COVID-19 restrictions changed.

This is why The International 2021 is not the answer. TI2021 was the rescheduled tenth edition, whereas The International 2020 is the skipped edition associated with the pandemic. The 2019 tournament was held in Shanghai, and the next completed tournament followed in 2021.
