Which institution was represented by 2026 Tony education honoree Freddie Hendricks?

Freddie Hendricks, the 2026 Tony Award honoree for Excellence in Theatre Education, was affiliated with Utopian Academy for the Arts.

The Excellence in Theatre Education Award recognizes an educator whose work uses theatre to support students and communities. Hendricks was honored for his connection with Utopian Academy for the Arts, an educational institution focused on arts learning.

This recognition is separate from the competitive Tony categories for Broadway productions. It does not honor a show, performer, or designer; instead, it highlights the effect of theatre education beyond the professional stage.

The 2026 ceremony also presented a Regional Theatre Tony Award to American Players Theatre and a Special Tony Award to the League of Resident Theatres. Those organizations are therefore related to the ceremony but are not the institution associated with Hendricks.
