Which Indian Ocean territory uses Cocos Islands Time?
Answer
Cocos Islands
Answer
Cocos Islands
The Cocos Islands use Cocos Islands Time, the standard time zone of the Australian territory formally called the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
The territory is a remote archipelago of 27 coral islands arranged in two atolls in the eastern Indian Ocean. It was sighted by William Keeling in 1609 and later developed a distinctive Cocos Malay community under the Clunies-Ross family. Australia assumed control from Singapore in 1955.
Cocos Islands Time is 6 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC and is commonly abbreviated CCT. The territory does not observe daylight saving time, so its clocks remain on the same offset year-round.
A frequent mix-up is Christmas Island, another Australian Indian Ocean territory. Christmas Island uses UTC+07:00, while the Cocos Islands use the unusual half-hour offset UTC+06:30. Myanmar also uses UTC+06:30, but under a different time-zone name.
